Alltel to purchase Georgia, Alabama wireless properties

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. Ï Alltel has agreed to purchase certain wireless assets and properties from Public Service Cellular, Inc., a privately held company based in Reynolds, Ga. The properties operate as PSC Wireless.
Alltel will add customers in western Georgia and eastern Alabama in a 27-county area that covers a population of about 900,000, including the greater Columbus and Fort Benning areas in Georgia and Auburn and Opelika, Ala. Terms of the transaction, which is expected to close in the first half of 2005, were not disclosed.
"Alltel is pleased to add these wireless properties which are adjacent to our existing markets in Montgomery, Ala. and Albany, Ga. and overlap some of our wireline properties," said Scott Ford, Alltel president and chief executive officer.
Alltel is a customer-focused communications company with more than 13 million customers and $8 billion in annual revenues. Alltel provides wireless, local telephone, long-distance, Internet and high-speed data services to residential and business customers in 26 states.
