Mann named vice president and general manager for the area
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - ALLTEL today completed its purchase of wirelessproperties in New Orleans and Baton Rouge from SBC Communications Inc.,increasing the company's national wireless customer base to more than 6million.
ALLTEL also announced that Scott Mann has been named vice president and general manager for the area.
The properties operate as Radiofone in the New Orleans areaand as Cellular One in the Baton Rouge area. The purchase also includesthree rural service areas in Iberville, St. James and Plaqueminesparishes. The properties soon will be converted to the ALLTEL brand.
ALLTEL gains about 160,000 wireless customers and 300,000paging customers in a cash transaction valued at about $400 million.About 2 million potential customers are included in the markets.
"This gives ALLTEL a wireless footprint that virtuallyextends along the Gulf Coast from New Orleans to southern Florida,"said Joe T. Ford, ALLTEL chairman and chief executive officer. "We lookforward to providing our new customers with bundled communicationsservices, including nationwide wireless calling plans."
Mann, who has been with ALLTEL since 1992, was previouslyvice president and general manager for ALLTEL's properties in centraland east Texas.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for ALLTEL, moving intoLouisiana for the first time," Mann said. "We already have startedpreparing for digital conversion of the properties and we look forwardto delivering a full range of advanced services to our new customers."
