LITTLE ROCK - ALLTEL today announced the completion of its merger withStandard Group, Inc., a communications company whose subsidiaries offera variety of services in northeast Georgia.
The merger adds more than 71,000 customer telephone lines toALLTEL's Georgia operations. Those lines increase ALLTEL's total in thestate by 14 percent to approximately 550,000. The merger allows ALLTELto integrate Standard's long-distance, paging and Internet accessservices as well as the company's extensive fiber-optic network intoALLTEL's current wireline and wireless services.
The transaction also includes TeleView Inc., Standard's cabletelevision subsidiary. TeleView serves approximately 30,000 customersin the region. Standard's service area, which includes all or part of11 contiguous counties in northeast Georgia, is adjacent to otherALLTEL wireline properties in the state. Terms of the transaction werenot disclosed.
ALLTEL provides wireline and wireless communications servicesto more than 5.6 million customers in 22 states and has more than 1,000information services clients in 48 countries.
